Improvements in feed conversion efficiency will axiomatically result in more sustainable chicken-meat production. The incorporation of starch and protein digestive dynamics into feed formulations will enhance FCR. To facilitate this, more research is required to establish the starch and protein digestion rates of commonly used feed grains and protein sources. Reductions in dietary crude CP contents will reduce the chicken meat industry’s dependence on soybean meal.
Again, more research is required so that dietary CP reductions do not compromise FCR and in this connection the starch digestive dynamics of feed grains may be pivotal. Finally, these two pathways are not mutually exclusive but intertwined and they may be harnessed simultaneously in advanced dietary formulations to achieve the desired objective of more sustainable chicken-meat production.
